The Galgorm Hotel and Resort is one of the perfect places to get married – and lends itself well to creating an incredible wedding video.
Whether you’re looking for an intimate ceremony, outdoor wedding or large reception gathering, the Galgorm has you covered.
The hotel is constantly expanding. First opened in 1991, it has been one of Northern Ireland’s premier wedding spots for decades. Over the years the luxury hotel has become synonymous with spectacular weddings and personal civil ceremonies that couples cherish forever.
Wedding Packages
With so much experience in the wedding space, it’s no wonder that the Galgorm has expanded its offering to engaged couples in the form of stunning bridal suites and a well-established list of wedding suppliers. Whilst wedding photographers such as Kris, Ursula and Jayne Harkness are on the top of their recommended list, for some reason the Galgorm don’t have a dedicated list of wedding videographers. Thankfully I’ve filmed weddings in this venue for some years now, so I’ve established myself as a trustworthy wedding vendor, without having to go to the Galgorm’s annual wedding showcase.
Thanks to it’s large dedicated team of wedding planners with years of experience, the hotel offers a service for their couples like no other venue across the province.

Communicating your ideas with their wedding coordinators can help them tailor the event to your specifications. From décor and floral arrangements, through photography and videography, their attention to detail ensures that every element is planned and executed well.
Whilst you could be forgiven for assuming that it can’t be that popular of a spot for weddings, with 3 ceremony spaces and 3 reception halls, the Galgorm has the capacity to have 3 weddings on the same day. You could be forgiven for thinking “there’s no way that I want my wedding day shared with three other brides”, however the grand scale of the grounds spanning across the River Maine mean that the chances of bumping into another newly-wed couple are slim to none – especially if your videographer and photographer are savvy enough to know the other wedding vendors and co-ordinate with both them and the staff in the venue to ensure this doesn't happen.

Food is available at the onsite river room that you can slip into with your robe and slippers on offering afternoon tea and lunches, the venue has everything you need in one place.
Again moving away from weddings, after your thermal spa village experience you can eat in one of their many award winning restaurants:

If you want to venture futher into Ballymena for a bit to eat then it’s just a short taxi drive to the centre of town. Speaking of travlling, Galgorm Resort is only 45 minutes drive from Belfast – making is accessible for your wedding guests with good transport links from Ballymena.
If the thermal spa isn’t your thing, then there’s mountain biking, horseback riding, nearby golf courses (including Galgorm Castle Golf Club).

Galgorm Luxury Wedding Destination
The venue has 3 ceremony spaces that each lend themselves perfectly to wedding videography:
Phantom House
For couples seeking a more intimate setting, the Phantom House offers a charming and secluded venue. With the resort’s lush gardens providing a great backdrop for your wedding video, the Phantom House is surrounded by natural beauty, creating a serene and romantic atmosphere.
This ‘mill style’ ceremony room is full of history. Right next to the River Maine it offers rustic charm.
In this space I’ll often position myself down the aisle, with a remote camera system on a tripod at the front of the space for more of a candid approach. It accommodates ___ guests and is perfect for humanist ceremonies.
I’ll often take at least two fixed video lights into this ceremony space to improve the white balance of the footage whilst I film on Sony Slog3.
River Room
With stunning views of the River Maine, this venue is perfect for couples who want to incorporate the landscapes of Ballymena and Mid and East Antrim into their celebration. The elegant décor and floor-to-ceiling windows mean that I can film on a fixed Kelvin level for white balance and get the picture profile of my footage just perfect.
Ghost House – up to 50 guests
With space for 50 people this is the perfect spot for an intimate ceremony. I tend to use at least 3 camera systems for this space, totally remote so that I’m not in the background of your wedding photographs! I probably won’t recommend a second shooter for this ceremony space as it’s just a little small to have a cinematographer assistant working with me.
Chandelier Garden
Normally a must go to spot for intimate portraits as part of wedding photography and videography – where the wedding vendors in the know like to take their couples after dinner. I can put my video assistant on a 35mm lens to capture the wide sweeping shots whilst I’m on a longer lens to punch in towards the intimacy of the couple as a close up.
Outdoor Ceremonies
If the weather is great then there are a few options for your outdoor ceremony you can get married in the phantom house courtyard this is nestled beside the historic phantom house this courtyard offers a charming blend of rustic elegance and natural beauty with the soothing sounds of the nearby river main in the backdrop of ancient Woodlands it's an idyllic spot for couples seeking A serene and intimate setting.
The ghost house garden is also available this is adjacent to the contemporary ghost house this garden space provides A tranquil environment surrounded by lush greenery its secluded nature makes it perfect for couples desiring a peaceful and private ceremony to amidst nature.
For those envisaging fairy light tale ceremony the Chandelier garden. This dream come true adorned with elegant chandeliers hanging amidst the trees the space combines the natural beauty with a touch of glamour creating a magical atmosphere for your vows.
Each of these outdoor venues at Galgorm resort can accommodate up to 120 guests and his licence was civil religious and humanist ceremonies the resorts dedicated wedding planners are on hand to assist in tailoring every detail to your vision ensuring a seamless and memorable experience – leaving you to concentrate on the smaller details such as where that missing button hole flower went!
I personally love outdoor ceremonies when it comes to videography. Not only is it because the weather is usually great and everyone is in high spirits, but it means that I can take that little bit of a step back, put a longer lens on my cameras and capture those candid raw moments of emotion without worrying about being in the photographer's shot.
Civil Ceremonies
Whilst religious presbyterian and other protestant ceremonies can be held across any wedding space the Galgorm has to offer, Catholic Ceremonies can’t be conducted on their large grounds in any of their ceremony rooms due to religious constraints of the Church.
Whilst some modern religious celebrants can bring what couples need to the Galgorm, the weddings that I’ve filmed here have all been with a humanist celebrant.
Reception rooms at the Galgorm
The Great Hall – up to 100 guests
One of the Galgorm’s mose magnificent venues, its high ceilings and crystal chandeliers provide a great backdrop for your wedding videography. This room can accommodate large numbers of wedding guests, including your maid of honour at the top table and your best man, with ample space for a large top table overlooking the gardens. The bar next to this room is perfect for a drinks reception, with plenty of space for wedding entertainment such as a singer or small band. One of my last weddings here had an artist who would draw the guests in person!
The Four Seasons Suite - up to 80 guests
Slightly more modern in style The Four Seasons street is flooded with natural light and has gorgeous views over the resort's gardens it feels airy and relaxed ideal for couples who want a more casual or minimalist vibe without losing the luxury detached outdoor areas fab from mingling and canapes during your drinks reception. For filming speeches in this venue I’ll often use three cameras two will be on tripods and one will be on a gimbal the one on the gimbal stabiliser will get guest reactions whereas the one of my a cameras on a tripod will get to the main speaker and then another wide angle will capture the whole of the top table, including all of your groomsmen and bridesmaids so that I can see who's reacting to some of the emotion. This will give me the perfect clips for the perfect edit when I get back home and download all of my footage onto Davinci editing software. I personally use a multi-cam edit set to timecode that snaps into place and means I can upload your speeches edit to the cloud just a few weeks after your wedding. Whilst some videographers will just put a LUT (look up table) on your footage, I use Davinci (which is far better than premier pro) to colour each clip separately for that more natural look when I’ve filmed using certain colour profiles on my sony bodies.
